SYSTEMS IN EDUCATION: FOR PARENTS OF GIFTED CHILDREN
The Gifted Child and Adolescent
Using systems thinking in making educational decisions
A FREE Introductory Seminar: 1pm – 2p.m.
For parents of children starting Opportunity Classes and Selective Schools or parents considering educational options for their gifted child
The gifted child, like the child with learning delays, is different from age peers in the pace the brain makes connections to learn and the pace the child progresses through the stages of development to adulthood. Research has shown there are significant differences in a gifted child’s intellectual and emotional development. Awareness of these differences is helpful to support a parent making educational decisions for a child. This seminar for parents, informed by current educational and social research in gifted education and Bowen Family Systems Theory will begin to explore:
- What does Bowen Family Systems offer parents in making educational choices?
- What is Giftedness?
- Social and emotional development of the gifted child
- Difficulties gifted children may experience and challenges for parenting
- Parents’ capacity to have boundaries with their child rather than focus on a child’s performance
- The impact of the system’s anxiety on the child’s development
- How family systems patterns may be replicated in the classroom
- Underachievement: What stops a gifted child translating a natural gift to a talent?
- Thinking systems in preparing for the OC, Selective and scholarship tests
- Making systems informed educational decisions, including those regarding coaching
