Hands on application of systems thinking to clinical practice, family of origin, use of neuro-feedback, and use of the self of the therapist in clinical work. Max. 8 participants
4 days of intensive experiential training in family systems application to clinical work including:
- live clinical role played sessions,
- Experience of neuro-feedback,
- Family of origin explorations
- Workshopping the use of the self of the therapist clinically.
This training will require each participant to use their own family material in a confidential setting over the course of the week. Each participant understands that they will be actively involved in role plays and discussions and demonstrations of interventions.
Program:
Tuesday
- 9:00am-10:00am - Review of theory and thinking about clinical evaluation and interventions – J Brown
- 10:30am-12:00pm - Clinical session (role played as real session) and discussion – J Brown
- 1:00pm-3:00pm - Family of Origin exploration - What can be learned from a 3 generational family diagram? Each presents their family diagram. Drawing out what can be learned about objective systems functioning from this data? J Brown
- 3:30pm-5:00pm - Clinical session including family of origin (role played as real session) and discussion – J Brown
Wednesday
- 9:00am-10:00am - Review of theory and thinking about clinical evaluation and interventions - J Brown
- 10:30 -12:00pm - Clinical session (role played by J Brown as real session) and discussion - J Brown
- 1:00pm-3:00pm - Thinking about the self of the therapist. Observing and attending to your own functioning throughout the clinical process. Key applications of this key skill will be explored. - J Wright
- 3:30 -5:00pm - Considering the responsibility of the therapist in a therapeutic endeavour that focusses on growth not healing. What does this ask of a therapist? - J Wright

- 9:00am-10:00am - Review of theory and thinking about clinical practice particularly as it relates to self regulation, chronic anxiety and differentiation of self - J Brown

- 1:00pm-3:00pm - Self Regulation and the Brain. Pt 1 - Demonstrations using neuro-feedback to think about the link between neurobiology and clinical efforts to define self in the family system. L MacKay

Friday
